Sessions are held every Wednesday from 5:30 until 7 p.m at St. John Lutheran Church, 7214 Cass Ave, Darien, IL 60561. Sessions include math skills, reading skills, writing skills, and food for thought.
COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER DAY
Vounteers and students work together on a community project. In the past, we have worked to clean up the community, volunteered at the Westmont Nursing Home, and worked with REACH Ministries Food Bank.
PARENT CLUB WORKSHOPS
Parents are encouraged to attend workshops periodically. Two workshops are offered in the Fall and in the Spring. Topics include goal setting, budgeting, meal planning, and work life balance.
Students have several opportunities to participate in field trips to sporting, cultural, and other events. These trips provide fun, enrichment activities for our youth. If you have extra tickets to donate, we always appreciate them.
Super Tuesdays provide students with the opportunity to go on field trips to attractions in and around Chicago during the summer. They also get a chance to visit a local college. These summer activities are an ideal way to expand our students' horizons and enrich their lives.
HOLIDAY LUNCHEON FUNDRAISER
At the end of the year, we host our annual holiday luncheon fundraiser, which includes a lovely meal, presentations by the students, entertainment, and a raffle. This is a great opportunity to learn more about our program and meet new people.
In first half of 2018, AALR began a partnership with Metropolitan Family Services of Calumet City. As part of this joint effort, AALR supports and engages with families and students on the Southside of Chicago. We look forward to our continued partnership with this transformative organization.
